Paddle Down The Thames

Originally, before I damaged my back, I wanted to paddle down the Thames from Cricklade, the highest navigable town on the Thames, down to the Thames Barrier. Subsequent to my accident I have only recently been able to swim again and still do not feel very confident  that I could perform a self rescue if I capsised my Canoe.  I have provisionally booked the first two weeks in August 2012 to attempt this, and also started to look at Sea Kayaks instead of my Open Canoes. This was driven by talking to my Post Man, James, who has paddled down the Thames before, and he advised that an open Canoe may impracticle once past Teddington Lock, where the Thames becomes tidal and wash from river craft is much more prolific.

So the current plan is to paddle down the Thames next Summer.
